Anthropology is no longer done in exotic places. Today we can do it over the Internet. And what better group to study than the anthropologists.... This is my take on Alan Macfarlane's marvellous archive of interviews with men and women - many virtuosos in their own field - who remain largely unknown to the public.
Through the vast jungle of my prose there are little streams of poetry.
What is the best way to understand art? Make it yourself!.... It is the purist's view, though not wholly wrong; the most insightful critics those who have the artist's touch, the alphabet their palette. Here, I throw a few daubs onto the canvas.
