Poem: Difficult Questions

A third poem on Leonora Carrington's The Hour of the Angelus.

Where we going?

To a place where actors

Are the audience.

What do you want?

Adults out of children

A nursery into theatre.

Why do this?

To end these childish games

Begin the play of life.

What will happen?

Seen from the outside

A role on another’s stage.

It’s so unfair!

Perfecting an art

To perfect the self....

I don't understand.

To perfect a self

You let that self go

Let it go?

Change one's clothes

Wear another's costume.
